CLF Mechlorethamine FAQs

What is mechlorethamine?
Mechlorethamine (me-klor-ETH-a-meen) comes in two forms: topical ointment and topical solution. What is the difference? It acts by destroying problem cells over time.

What are the risks of using mechlorethamine?
Although mechlorethamine is used to treat skin problems, if used for several years, there is a possibility of developing skin cancer. Talk with your doctor before using this or any drug. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor if you have an allergic reaction or develop dry skin. Your skin may darken temporarily, but will return to normal after you’ve stopped the medication.

As with any prescription medication, inform your doctor if you have any allergies, are taking any other medications, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
