In collaboration with University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Saturday, May 15, 2010 (All day)
On Saturday, May 15, 2010, the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation sponsored a Patient Educational Forum at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, which welcomed many patient and caregiver attendees who enjoyed a day of education and the opportunity to connect with others who share in their journey living with cutaneous lymphoma.
This successful forum featured CTCL experts Amit Pandya, M.D., who presented “Overview of Cutaneous Lymphomas,” and Joseph S. Susa, D.O. who presented “Pathology of Cutaneous Lymphomas.” Our Foundation extends its sincere thanks to Drs. Pandya and Susa for accepting our invitation to speak at this forum.
The morning sessions featuring Drs. Pandya and Susa were followed by a panel discussion in which they participated along with a special guest of the Foundation, Ms. Cindi Brannum, President of the Scleroderma Foundation Texas Chapter (http://www.scleroderma.org/chapter/texas/index.htm). A flight diversion from Detroit to Dallas prevented Foundation leaders Judy Jones, President, and Jennifer Viano, CEO, from attending. However, we are most grateful to Cindi for graciously accepting an invitation to serve as our representative during the forum.
Cindi is a former colleague and friend of Jennifer’s who lives in the Dallas area with scleroderma, a chronic, autoimmune, connective tissue disease that affects approximately 300,000 people in the United States. Hardening of the skin is one of the common and visible manifestations of scleroderma. Because Cindi is a patient herself coping with a disease that affects the skin, and because she is a caring, compassionate and dynamic patient advocacy leader, we knew that Cindi would be an effective and interesting speaker and facilitator. Thank you again, Cindi, for your partnership with us on this event.
In forum evaluations we received, attendees noted the following:
“The program was very well done and very informative.”
“Both doctors were very informative and upbeat.”
“This event increased my awareness of the many types of cutaneous lymphoma and their treatments.”.
The Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation thanks all of our attendees for joining us and making this event a great success. Together, we are making sure that each person with cutaneous lymphoma gets the best care possible.
